Open-Top Crochet Hat
Open-Top Hat - Instructions:
1 skein of #56 Fairyland Cotton Blend Yarn Cake
Crochet hook size 4.5mm – 5mm
ch 8 or 16 or 24 (adjust band wider or narrower with more or less chains)
Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 7 or 15 or 23 sc.
Row 2: ch1, turn, slip st in each sc – 7 or 15 or 23 slip sts.
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in each slip st.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until band measures 21 - 22” [53 - 56 cm]
- Adjust band size larger or smaller by increase or decrease the number of rows.
Join the ends of the band to make a circle.
Round 1 (Right Side): With right side facing, join yarn in first st with a slip st.
The following are for measurement using band measure approx. 21-22”.
Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 71 (79) sts evenly spaced along one long edge of Band; slip st in first sc to join – 72 (80) sc.
Round 2-4: dc in each sc around; join with slip st to first dc – 72 (80) dc.
- Increase more of Rows 2-4 for taller hats before decreasing.
Starting to decrease – Rounds 5, 7 and 7.
Round 5: *dc in next 3 sts, skip next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st to first dc – 54 (60) dc.
Round 6: *dc in next 2 sts, skip next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st to first dc – 36 (40) dc.
Round 7: *dc in next st, skip next st; repeat from *around; join with slip st to first dc – 18 (20) dc.
With yarn needle, seam band. Weave in all loose ends.
